World Environment Day-2023, Cleanup Drive

The Hon'ble Prime Minister of India has Launched the Amrit Dharohar Implementation Strategy on World Environment Day on 5th June 2023

“Augment and harness full potential of Information Education Communications leading to empowerment of urban population and participatory model for restoration of wetlands & connected waterbodies.”

A separate IEC activity planned for the World Environment Day 2023 Over the last one week between 2nd of June to 5th of June 2023. IEC activities mainly comprising of dissemination of information and awareness generation regarding the importance of wetlands and waterbodies protection and the responsibility of the citizens in maintaining the waterbodies

Generate awareness through dissemination of information leading to adequate programme literacy regarding entitlements and processes both for the beneficiaries (General public) as well as the implementers (Government & NGOs) to ensure optimum results.

The Functions and Responsibilities of the IEC Activities are under: -

I. To undertake communication needs assessment for the target groups under each of the programs.
II. To develop key messages which are required to be communicated to the various stakeholders Like General public, schools’ colleges, NGOs etc.,
III. To develop an integrated IEC strategy and put in place measures for implementing it by selecting appropriate medium of communications.

a) Digital Mobile Campaigns – Schools, Colleges, Beaches, Koyambedu market areas, Railway stations, Metro railways, Residencial areas nearby waterbodies

b) Radio jingles and run the advertisement for promotion on world environment to contribute for restoration of waterbodies and participate in cleaning activities and sustainability.

c) Press Meet, TV News coverage through Press conference and reached out to main stream media nearly 20 medias both newspaper and TV.

d) Live telecast of the cleaning waterbodies events in youtube /other TV channels

e) Nearly the entire Chennai is reached out through various channels and on ground more than 1000 volunteers worked

IV. To develop audio visual, print, outdoor outreach IEC materials both in Tamil, English and publish the same.

Liaise with PWD/WRD and Corporations for approval /permission to carry out the Lake cleaning activity along with IEC activities.

V. Document the Lake cleaning activities before and after cleaning work.

Daywise Activities 2-5, June,2023

Day-1: 02.06.2023
Digital mobile campaign Inaugurated across city covering Busstand,Railway stations,Metro stations,Koyambedu market,Fish market,Schools,Colleges,and Residencial areas in lake cleaning activities.

Day-2: 03.06.2023
Inaugurated Kilkattalai Lake machinery cleaning work .

Day-3: 04.06.2023
Chief Guest - Thiru.S.Shanmugam , District Forest Officer, Chennai Kick started the water hyacinth cleaning work at Narayapuram Lake, along with volunteers from colleges, NGOs etc.,

Day-4: 05.06.2023
Simultaneously cleaning activities at Narayanapuram Lake and Kilkattalai Lake with machinery and volunteers Organized world environment day PMO - Live streaming of all activities along with oath taking ceremony & Tree Plantations and conducted exhibitions on #Beat Plastic Pollution and student’s slogan contest etc.,
